For us, those 30 days were about fighting to lower your bills and put money back in your pocket, but Doug Ford spent it focused on all the wrong things: private jets, luxury spas, island airports, and fancy fundraisers, while denying Ontarians cheaper groceries and lower costs.
We pushed forward important ideas to ban surveillance pricing, remove HST on all groceries, bring justice for victims of sexual assault, protect renters, and make life more affordable for Ontarians. Doug Ford said no to all of them.
I personally co-sponsored three Private Members Bills during the spring session to help tackle a few of the important issues facing Ontarians:
-
Bill 117, Access (Assistance for Care, Commuting and Essential Specialized Services) Act, 2026 seeks to examine establishing a grant program for the purpose of supporting Ontarians living in remote and rural areas with the travel-related expenses they incur while trying to access necessary medical specialist services or procedures that are not available in their local communities.
-
Bill 126, Protecting Homeowners from Title Fraud Act, 2026 would provide that all notices of lodgement of title that are in effect immediately before the day the bill comes into force are deemed to be expired on that day.
-
Bill 128, Hot Days, Cool Homes Act, 2026 would, if passed, require landlords to treat cooling as an essential service for their tenants, and cap apartment temperatures at 26°C during the summer.
While we won’t be able to pass legislation or hold the government to account in the Legislature over the summer, there are still ways that we can, and will, fight back during this time. Attending local demonstrations, collecting petition signatures, talking to your neighbours, staying informed on the issues, writing to government Ministers, submitting FOI requests — every bit helps. If you don’t know where to start, my team will always be available to support you to ensure your voice is heard.
Now that I’m back in Ottawa, I’d like to invite you to join me, and the MPP office team, for an exciting summer kick-off at our annual community office open house and ice cream social on Wednesday, June 17th from 4:00PM - 7:00PM at 353 Waverley St. W. There will be plenty of fun, games, light refreshments and ice cream, courtesy of the Merry Dairy Ice Cream truck!
