To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
WHEREAS each year more than 2,000 Ontarians die from opioid poisoning; and
WHEREAS data indicates that for every opioid toxicity death, roughly 15 non-fatal overdoses may occur that require intervention with tools such as naloxone; and
WHEREAS Naloxone can safely be administered by bystanders to reverse opioid toxicities as they are occurring. Many opioid toxicity events are occurring in public places. Ensuring that naloxone kits are available to members of the public may prevent tragedies from occurring. Co-locating these Naloxone kits where AED defibrillators are housed would offer access to lifesaving tools in public spaces where opioid overdoses may occur.
