Supports for Palestinian Refugees

To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:

WHEREAS we are deeply alarmed by the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe and genocide in Gaza.

WHEREAS according to United Nations experts, the world’s leading genocide scholars, and international, Palestinian, and Israeli human rights organizations, the atrocities unfolding—including the deliberate starvation of civilians—constitute acts of genocide.

WHEREAS as a signatory to the Genocide Convention, and in line with the International Court of Justice decision of January 2024, Canada, and Ontario, must do everything in its power to end complicity in genocide and support Palestinians fleeing violence.

Therefore we the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to take immediate action by:

  • Increasing Settlement Support for Palestinian Refugees:
    • Expand access to housing, employment services, trauma-informed mental health care, and culturally appropriate community supports.
  • Waiving the OHIP Waiting Period:
    • Immediately waive the three-month OHIP waiting period for Palestinian refugees to ensure timely access to essential medical care.
  • Pressuring the Federal Government:
    • Pressure the Federal government to implement an immediate two-way arms embargo on Israel; impose sanctions on Netanyahu and his cabinet; suspend the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement; immediately fix the TRV program; continue to call for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages; ensure full and unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza.
