Doug Ford and his Conservative government have announced a new set of proposed changes to the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) that would strip away key tenant protections, make it easier for your landlord to evict you, and leaves the door open to ending rent control as we know it in Ontario.
This is an attack on tenants rights.
The Ford government has the audacity to blame renters for their failure to build more homes and to make housing more affordable, but tenants are not to blame for Landlord Tenant Board (LTB) disfunction - the government is to blame. The Ford government took a functioning LTB and broke it. Now their solution is to weaken tenant rights even further. It is vindictive and unjust.
Ontario is already in a housing crisis - rents are skyrocketing, wages and benefits are stagnant, and, according to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, 300,000 people will be unhoused by 2035.
